WORD Mission

WORD MassOur Youth Mission usually takes place each year for one week.  The mission programme takes place in the schools and includes evening activities.  The programme addresses six area of the comprehensive youth ministry model: community life, prayer and worship, pastoral care, evangelisation, advocacy, justice and service.  The main focus of the programme takes place within the schools and the evening activities are designed to build relationships with young people emphasising the Church as a community and beginning with prayer to underline the importance of prayer in all aspects of our lives.

Youth Council

Our youth council meet every two weeks in preparation for the Word Mission. This council is made up of young people who serve as an effective and vital link of the town and surrounding area.  We gather to discuss, form and inform the youth in the parishes about the up and coming Mission. The council consult the youth in order to identify their needs, initiatives in relation to the Mission, as well as taking the lead and booking venues for the Mission.

Radio Station

Each year in our attempt to build on community, Dundalk FM Radio Station run a table quiz which is proving very popular not only for our students but also to the Station’s many listeners.

Support Needed From the Schools:

Assign a link teacher who will attend meetings and co ordinate the Mission preparation and programme in the schools by liaising with the committee and monitoring the progress in the school.

The link teacher will be asked to work with the young people and committee members to:

- Posters to promote the Mission
- Recruiting teams for football and groups for Battle of the Bands
- Facilitate the programme in the schools
- Identify people to be involved in the Opening celebration
- Encourage, support and help the young people in the planning group to carry out their tasks in the school (e.g. fundraising and recruitment)
- Free young people for promotional appointments if necessary (maybe on local radio as newspapers interviews will hopefully be arranged outside of school hours
- Inclusion of information about the Mission in school materials eg school magazines.
